Kieran M. Dowling and Robert Woodruff of Schiller, Pittenger & Galvin, P.C. recently settled a civil rights matter on behalf of a female New Jersey county employee for the sum of $320,000.00. The complaint alleged that the plaintiff’s supervisor violated her free speech and freedom of association rights protected by Article 1 of the New Jersey State Constitution. The complaint also alleged that the supervisor, acting under color of law, harassed and unlawfully changed the Plaintiff’s conditions of employment because of her familial relationship with her husband, who was also a former county employee. This caused Plaintiff to endure significant economic losses and emotional distress. The matter was successfully resolved at mediation.
